BREA : Rezoning to Allow 97 New Homes
The City Council last week voted to rezone 27.7 acres at the northwest corner of Berry Street and Northwood Avenue to allow construction of 97 single-family homes.
The land, formerly an avocado orchard and nursery, was previously zoned for “hillside residential development” that would allow two homes per acre. The new zoning allows up to six.
Council members and residents said they were concerned that increased traffic would require traffic signals at that intersection and a sidewalk on the north side of Berry Street. Development Services Director Jim Cutts said $36,700 already had been set aside for those improvements.
