SOMIS : School Board Drafts Drug, Alcohol Policy
- Share via
The Somis Union Elementary School District Board of Trustees has created a policy on alcohol and drug abuse in schools, including a provision calling for a non-punitive response for students who admit to substance abuse.
The alcohol and drug policy encourages intervention in cases where a problem is suspected and referrals for treatment outside the school.
Under the policy endorsed by the board, the use of paging devices by students is prohibited, unless there is a medical reason. Pagers have been used by drug dealers in other school districts, officials said.
Supt. Dale Forgey said drugs are not a problem on the campus, except for an occasional case of a student bringing marijuana to school.
