MISSION VIEJO — A 70-year-old woman was run over while trying to stop her husband’s unattended car from rolling down a driveway, authorities said.
Katherine Leslie Kara was pronounced dead by paramedics in front of the couple’s house on the 27800 block of Espinoza, shortly after the incident Friday at 12:55 p.m., Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Jay Mendez said.
Kara’s 69-year-old husband, Andrew, had backed out of the garage and had gotten out of his 1976 Chrysler to shut the garage door when the car started to roll into the street, Mendez said.
“Katherine ran behind the vehicle attempting to stop it from rolling into the street, but it knocked her down and then rolled over her,” Mendez said.
Andrew Kara was taken to Saddleback Community Hospital in Laguna Hill for observation.
