World IN BRIEF : SURINAME : Soviet Diplomat Found Shot to Death

Stasis Obukauskas, 41, second secretary and consul at the Soviet Embassy in Suriname, was found shot to death, his body lying in a gutter in Paramaribo, capital of the South American nation, police said. No group or individual claimed responsibility for the killing, and the motive was unknown. Obukauskas had been in Suriname about 2 1/2 years. There was no comment from the Soviet Embassy. Suriname gained independence from the Netherlands in 1975.
