His closest opponent, Democrat Janice Graham, received 19,874 votes. Robert Lewis of the American Independent Party received 1,901 votes. The 31st District stretches from West Covina in Los Angeles County to Laguna Beach in Orange County.
The San Juan Capistrano park bond Measure D received 3,504 votes, or 71.2%, enough for the two-thirds majority needed for passage. The no votes totaled 1,419 for 28.8%.
