Ironically, the X may be the only one that still works: it means trash--no longer just sexual trash, but now much from the smorgasbord of “serious” filmmaking.
The ratings system was designed, if you remember, for the protection of the young, and that is still paramount--not the wee bit of “censorship” some serious filmgoers must endure before being able to spend two hours enjoying modern cannibalism.
