Amdahl Corp.: The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based mainframe computer maker posted first-quarter profit of $29.9 million, down 34% from the record 1989 period. Revenue was $506.7 million, 8% higher than last year. The firm said earnings were lower because of competitive pricing pressures that accelerated shortly after the first quarter of 1989 and because of a shift in product mix.
