WORLD IN BRIEF : SUDAN : 28 Executions Told After Failed Coup

Sudan reportedly executed 28 officers convicted of attempting to overthrow the African country’s military leader. Egypt’s official Middle East News Agency said three major generals, a brigadier general and four colonels were among those executed by firing squad. The country’s leader, Brig. Omar Hassan Ahmed Bashir, personally approved the sentences.
