Compton : Assistant City Manager Resigns for Job in Colton

Edmundo Sotelo, assistant city manager of Compton and the highest ranking Latino in City Hall, is resigning to become city manager of Colton, a community of approximately 38,000 in San Bernardino County.
The resignation, which takes effect May 11, was announced at the City Council meeting Tuesday night.
Sotelo, 44, has been with Compton 22 years, working his way up from a laborer’s job in the Public Works Department to his current position in the city manager’s office. While working for the city in a variety of jobs that included personnel analyst and economic development specialist, he went to night school to earn his college degrees.
He holds an associate of arts degree from Compton College and bachelor’s and master’s degrees in public administration from Cal State Dominguez Hills.
