Team USA extended its record winning streak to six games and West Germany avoided relegation to the B group by blanking Norway, 4-0, in the World Hockey Championships at Bern, Switzerland.
The United States edged Finland, 3-2, in their relegation pool finale. It improved by one the record set 57 years ago, the last time the United States won the championship. Despite their record streak, the Americans missed the medal round for the fourth straight time.
