Technicians Reject NBC Contract: National Assn. of Broadcast Employees and Technicians voted not to ratify a new contract offer from NBC which, the network claims, establishes parity with similar contracts at ABC and CBS. During negotiations, NABET officials have downplayed the possibility of a strike, remembering the bitter 17-week strike in 1987 that yielded more losses than gains for the union. Rejection means 2,000-plus technicians are working at NBC without a contract, which expired March 31.
