CENTURY LEAGUE MEET : Terry Paces El Modena by Winning 3 Events, Anchoring Mile Relay

ORANGE — El Modena’s Mike Terry won three events and anchored the winning mile relay team to highlight the Century League track championships Friday night at El Modena High.
Terry, a junior, handily won the 200-meter race (22.95), the 440 (51.12) and his speciality, the 800 (2:00.63). He anchored the mile relay to a 3:32.47 finish and a victory over Villa Park (3:32.84).
In girl’s action, El Modena’s Cara Brookhouse won two events and anchored the winning mile relay team.
Brookhouse won the 330 (47.60) and the 440 (1:02.01). As anchor of the mile relay team, she picked up speed in the final yards to overtake Canyon by one-hundredth of a second, 4:17.84 to 4:17.85.
Final meet scores and league champions were undetermined at press time because of a scoring problem.
Other highlights:
Foothill’s Roman Slobodynski won the shotput with a throw of 49 feet 2 1/2 feet and the discus with a throw of 147-4. Brian Pearsall of Villa Park was second in the shotput at 48-7.
Ian Alexander of Foothill won the high jump at 6-6.
In the distance events, Villa Park’s Rob Fisher won the mile in 4:29.99 and Santa Ana’s Frank Quinonez, who placed third in the mile (4:35.28), outpaced the competition in the two-mile (9:54.07).
Joanne Alo of Santa Ana Valley also won two events. Alo, the No. 2 shotputter in the county, won with a throw of 39-9, and won the discus competitionwith a throw of 127-5 1/2.
In the mile, Villa Park’s Susannah Thrasher (5:11.73) defeated El Modena freshman Kristina Dahlberg (5:17.61).
Santa Ana Valley’s Teresa Beltran, third in the mile at 5:26.76, easily won the two-mile in 11:45.60.
