PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Despite Eight Errors, Laguna Hills Wins Third Straight Pacific Coast Title

Laguna Hills High School scored three runs in the eighth inning to beat Trabuco Hills, 10-7, and clinch its third consecutive Pacific Coast League title Friday at Trabuco Hills.
Laguna Hills made six errors in the seventh inning as Trabuco Hills scored five unearned runs to tie it, 7-7. Laguna Hills made eight errors in the game.
Jim Reynolds’ RBI single broke the tie and the final two runs came on a bases-loaded walk and a ground out. Kevin Lovingier (12-1) pitched the final 1 2/3 innings for the victory.
Laury Schafer had four hits and two RBIs and Tom Lloyd and two hits and scored three runs for Laguna Hills (17-7, 12-1 in league). Ted Wilkes had two hits, including a home run, and scored two runs for Laguna Hills.
In another Pacific Coast League game:
Orange 4, Laguna Beach 3--Richard Prater hit a solo home run in the seventh to break a 3-3 tie for visiting Orange (13-9, 9-4). Prater had two hits, and two RBIs. John Martinolich (6-0) pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief, striking out three and allowing two hits and no runs for the victory.
In the Angelus League:
St. Paul 5, Servite 3--St. Paul (14-7, 6-4) scored all five runs in the sixth inning on five hits and a walk. Chad Rolish had three hits, scored and had one RBI and Ed Crippen had two hits and one RBI for visiting Servite (16-7, 5-5).
In the Century League:
El Modena 8, Foothill 0--Ken Manell (3-1) pitched a four-hitter with five strikeouts for host El Modena (11-10, 6-7). Mike Vermillion had four hits, scored a run, and drove in another and Aaron Aguirre had two hits and two RBIs. El Modena scored five runs in the sixth inning to take an 8-0 lead. Jason Schade had a hit and two RBIs.
Canyon 5, Villa Park 3--Greg Tippen (3-3) pitched a four-hitter with six strikeouts. Tippen tripled and scored in the first inning and hit a solo home run for Canyon (11-11-1, 9-3-1). Brandon Potts had an RBI double and Bobby Thompson followed with a two-run single in the third inning for Canyon.
Santa Ana 7, Santa Ana Valley 6 (12 innings)--Bill Johnson led off the 12th with a triple and Santiago Lopez hit a two-out single to score him for Santa Ana (12-11, 8-5). Lopez had three hits, including two doubles, and four RBIs. Miguel Castaneda (2-0) pitched four innings of relief, allowing two hits and striking out five for the victory. It was the seventh consecutive league victory for Santa Ana.
In the Empire League:
El Dorado 10, Cypress 1--Bruce Torkelson had two hits and two RBIs and Geraldo Flores had three hits and four RBIs to lead host El Dorado (11-11, 5-7). Tyson Dowdell (4-1) pitched a two-hitter, striking out three and walking one.
Loara 4, Los Alamitos 1--Joey Gaudio (2-4) pitched a six-hitter with five strikeouts and no walks for host Loara (7-16, 5-8). He also had two hits and two RBIs. Gaudio had a two-run double in the first inning for Loara.
Katella 6, Esperanza 3 (8 innings)--Cesar Fernandez had a two-run single in the eighth to spark Katella’s three-run outburst. Dan Allen got the victory. Keith McDonald, who took the loss in relief, had hit a solo home run in the sixth to tie it, 2-2.
Esperanza (18-5, 12-1) cliched the league title Wednesday with a 4-2 victory over Katella (18-5, 9-4), .
In the Olympic League:
Orange Lutheran 11, Valley Christian 6--Dan Almquist had three hits, including two doubles, scored twice, and had three RBIs to lead host Orange Lutheran (16-6, 10-2). Kent Dowding (8-2) pitched a six-hitter, struck out six and walked six.
In the Orange league:
Magnolia 5, Valencia 4 (8 innings)--Kevine Schlect doubled, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Art Romero’s single for host Magnolia (11-9, 9-4). Tony Treull had two hits and had one RBI and Mike Compean had two hits, scored twice and had one RBI.
Brea-Olinda 2, Savanna 1 (8 innings)--Chad Marlow hit a sacrifice fly to score Mike Ryan in the bottom of the eighth inning to lead Brea-Olinda (16-6-1, 10-2-1). John Toro had two hits and had one RBI for the winners.
In the Sea View League:
Saddleback 9, Newport Harbor 2--Saddleback (10-13, 5-8) scored five runs in the third inning and four in the fifth inning. David Madrid hit a RBI triple in the third inning and a two-run double in the fifth.
Corona del Mar 3, University 2--Corona del Mar (10-13, 5-8) scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth for the victory. Rees Thorkelson doubled and scored on a double by Greg Prough to tie it at 2-2. Neil Weber then hit a sacrifice fly to score Prough with the winning run. Weber (2-3) pitched a four-hitter with five strikeouts.
Tustin 6, Estancia 0--Danny Baker (11-1) pitched a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts for visiting Tustin (20-3, 12-1). Shawn Green had three hits and two RBIs, including a two-run single in the fourth, as Tustin scored four runs to break a scoreless tie.
In the South Coast League:
El Toro 11, San Clemente 1--Scott Sebbo had three hits, scored twice and had one RBI. Chris Sauritch led off the bottom of the first with a home run and Darren Sharp hit a two-run home run in the second inning to lead host El Toro (18-6, 10-3).
Irvine 9, Mission Viejo 0--Steve Nessl pitched three innings and Aron Garcia pitched four innings to combine on a one-hitter to lead visiting Irvine (12-12, 7-6). Nessl, who came out after walking the first two batters of the fourth inning, also hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning. Lee Williams of Mission Viejo (6-6-1 in league) hit a two-out double in the seventh inning.
