A new program providing low-cost transportation for the city’s elderly and disabled residents was dedicated Wednesday in Irvine.
The Tailored Residential Irvine Paratransit Service is providing curb-to-curb service in vehicles equipped with lifts. Riders pay between $1 and $3 per trip, depending on their destination.
Irvine residents over 55 or those with temporary or permanent disabilities are eligible to participate.
“I shall always be grateful that the council had the vision to realize that disabled people had special needs no other service provided,” Irvine resident Gwendolyn Koza wrote in a letter to the city. “They gave me wings.”
