SOUTHAMPTON, England — The two New Zealand yachts that hold the overall lead in the Whitbread Round the World Race also sailed into the first two places in the sixth and final stage today.
The Fisher and Paykel yacht led Steinlager 2 by 15 nautical miles after about one-fifth of the 3,387-mile leg from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., to Southampton.
Steinlager 2 held an overall lead of more than 35 hours over Fisher and Paykel as the boats left Ft. Lauderdale last weekend.
