Saugus Man Sentenced in Legion Bar Slaying

A Saugus resident was sentenced Friday to 13 years in prison for shooting a man to death in the American Legion post in Newhall last year.
Raymond C. Fox Jr., 51, received the maximum sentence for voluntary manslaughter, a charge to which he pleaded guilty Friday after prosecutors agreed to drop the murder charge that was originally filed against him.
Fox shot Billy Pappas, 40, in the head after the two men argued about a parking space outside the post, authorities said. The two men, who had a longstanding dislike for one another, had been drinking at the post’s bar before the shooting took place, authorities said.
Pappas was a decorated Vietnam War veteran, authorities said.
