Dancer Leanne Vecchione, a freshman at Chapman College in Orange, is the California winner in a competition of tributes to Dr. Albert Schweitzer. College students throughout the country were asked to come up with any kind of tribute and a winner from each state was chosen. Vecchione, a Fullerton native who lives in La Habra Heights, won for a dance she created entitled “Healing in Africa,” which was submitted on a videotape directed and edited by Chapman senior Eli Reyna. Vecchione will receive her non-monetary award at an Albert Schweitzer colloquium at the United Nations Aug. 23 and 24.
