The Youth Opportunity Unlimited (YOU) challenge grant was awarded to Los Angeles by the U.S. Labor Department earlier this week and will be matched by $2.7 million in city funds.
Bradley said the combined funds--$5.4 million--will be used to develop a comprehensive youth program operating out of a new Community Youth Services Center to be established in South Los Angeles.
The mayor made the announcement at Fremont High School, in the heart of the target area that is bounded by Florence Avenue on the north, Central Avenue on the east, Manchester Avenue on the south and Vermont Avenue on the west.
