Bob Burns of Cal State Northridge double-bogeyed the first hole but recovered to shoot a five-over-par 75 and retain a one-shot lead midway through the NCAA Division II golf championships at Jupiter, Fla.
Burns’ total was 145. Dave McMillan of Florida Southern was second at 75-146.
Florida Southern continued to lead the team race at 589 after a second-round total of 302. Second-place Troy State of Alabama was 12 strokes back at 601 after shooting a 296. Northridge shot 305 and slipped to third with 602. Tied for fourth at 607 were Abilene Christian (299), Cal State Stanislaus (302) and defending champion Columbus, Ga. (303).
