TUSTIN : Public Pitches In for Burned-Out Family
- Share via
Tustin post office employees raised $3,300 for the De La Riva family, whose 4-year-old son died in a fire at their home this month, by holding a bake sale in the parking lot Tuesday.
The community has rallied to support the family since the fatal fire, which also destroyed all their belongings.
“The public was amazing,” said Erla Sine, a postal clerk who helped coordinate the bake sale. “Not only that, but we got them a 1973 station wagon and a refrigerator, a microwave, a crib and some other items.”
Sine said many people donated baked goods to sell or paid much more for the baked goods than the price indicated.
Sine said the family is staying in a motel now while they continue to look for an apartment.
