SOUTHERN SECTION TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS : Thousand Oaks Duo Reaches Semifinals

Sean McKenna and Derek Shinden of Thousand Oaks High, the Southern Section’s fifth-seeded doubles team, overcame a 5-2 deficit in the tiebreaker of the second set to defeat third-seeded Kenny Alsten and Marshall Solomon of Corona del Mar, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) in a quarterfinal tennis match at the Southern Section individual championships in Huntington Beach.
McKenna and Shinden advance to today’s semifinals.
Earlier in the day, McKenna and Shinden defeated Brett Isaacman and Reza Nilforoushan of Irvine Woodbridge, 6-1, 6-0, in a first-round match.
Also in the first round, Newport Harbor’s Billy Hansen and Brad Gibson defeated Hart’s Dan Brodenzano and Tony Pangan, 5-7, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4.
