There were no fatal traffic accidents in Ventura County over the Memorial Day weekend, although 36 people were arrested for driving under the influence, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officer Jim Utter said the CHP investigated 33 accidents between 6 p.m. Friday and midnight Monday. Utter said 24 people were injured, and six of those accidents involved drinking drivers.
The statistics this year differed little from last year, when the CHP made 39 arrests for driving under the influence and reported 31 traffic accidents, Utter said.
In 15 of those 1989 accidents, 26 people were injured and one person was killed. Two of the accidents involved drinking drivers, Utter said.
In neighboring Santa Barbara County last weekend, 36 people were arrested for driving under the influence and no fatalities were reported, Utter said.
