‘Send Message’ With Water Saving, Flores Asks

Kicking off “Water Conservation Day” in Los Angeles, City Councilwoman Joan Milke Flores on Thursday called on the city’s water users to “send a message” that sufficient water can be conserved without the force of Mayor Tom Bradley’s rationing plan.

Flores, who has repeatedly questioned the need to impose rationing, suggested that a major display of water saving by the city’s 3.5 million residents could bolster her efforts to keep the conservation program voluntary. “The message that we want to send to the City Council is that people in Los Angeles are aware of conservation and do know how to conserve,” she said.

Flores has asked the Department of Water and Power to report today on how effectively residents have conserved.
