Hughes Aircraft Co. said the U.S. Navy has awarded it a $210-million contract to build two ultra-high-frequency communications satellites.
The Los Angeles firm said the contract is a modification to a 1988 Navy contract with its Space and Communications Group unit that provided for one satellite with options for nine others. The earlier contract calls for work to be completed by September, 1996.
