COUNTYWIDE : Low-Cost Tests for Breast Cancer Start
- Share via
The American Cancer Society is sponsoring its fifth annual low-cost breast cancer screening program now through June 15.
Officials say the program, which is available to women older than 35 who do not already have symptoms of breast cancer, will reduce the cost of getting a mammogram from $250 to $50 at 27 area hospitals and clinics. A mammogram, or breast X-ray, is used for early detection of breast tumors.
Statistics show that 1 in 10 women in Orange County will eventually contract the disease, which is curable if caught in the early stages. For more information, contact the Cancer Society phone banks at (714) 772-8200. Spanish-speaking women should call (714) 744-6111.
