Two carpenters were severely burned and a third suffered less serious burns in an explosion at a battery company Wednesday when they cut through electrical lines, authorities said.
William Laird, 37, of Chino Hills and Carl Blaton, 29, of Bell sustained burns over 25% of their bodies when they accidentally sliced electrical wires, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Kenneth Gilstrap said. Sparks from the 9 a.m. accident at G.N.B. Inc. in Industry ignited their clothing.
Two of the carpenters, employees of Frize Inc., were in serious condition at County-USC Medical Center, spokeswoman Adelaida de La Cerda said.
The third workman, 32-year-old Chad Bolton, was brought to Queen of the Valley Hospital and treated for second-degree burns to his arms.
