“Harmony throughout the World” is the theme for this summer’s Camarillo free concerts- in-the-park series. The Camarillo Arts Council is bringing myriad cultures to Constitution Park.
“This year we have something from every corner of the world, I think, except Antarctica,” said Rich Smith, coordinator of Sunday’s event.
An “Asian-Pacific Music and Dance Festival” begins at 4 p.m. Sunday with a Lion’s March and five dances representing five regions of China, performed by the Ventura County Chinese-American Club. Afterward, advanced students from the Tae Ryong Tae Kwon Do School of Camarillo will present a martial arts demonstration. A program entitled “Expressions of Polynesia” will conclude the program. A variety of dances--including Hawaiian, Tahitian, Samoan and Mauri--will be presented by Kealoha and Company.
All concerts in the series begin at 4 p.m. Sundays, except one Saturday, Aug. 18, which begins at 6 p.m.:
July 8--The Camarillo Symphony Orchestra will present Shakespeare’s “A Comedy of Errors.”
July 29--The Rubin Estrada Band plays Latin jazz and a folkloric dance troupe performs.
Aug. 18--The Camarillo Symphony Orchestra will return for “Symphony Under the Stars” and will be accompanied by Hungarian folk dancers.
Sept. 16--A “Scottish Festival” will showcase bagpipers, drummers and singers.
The park is at 610 Carmen Drive, Camarillo. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs and a picnic. For information call 987-7847.
