San Diego police have arrested a La Mesa woman who reportedly abandoned her twin daughters while fleeing from department store security officers during a shoplifting attempt Tuesday night.
Child-abuse investigators arrested Della Youngblood, 20, at police headquarters at 3:30 Wednesday afternoon after an investigation of the Tuesday night incident, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
Two security officers at the J.C. Penney store in Fashion Valley said they saw Youngblood stealing clothing about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Robinson said.
The officers followed the woman into the parking lot, but she got into a car and drove away, leaving her 2-year-old daughters behind, Robinson said. The children were taken to the Hillcrest Receiving Home in San Diego, Robinson said.
