CHICAGO — Notices are being given this week to 300 Santa Fe Railway employees who will lose their jobs by the end of the year, the company said today--while 350 railway and corporate workers weigh whether to move with the corporate offices from Chicago to nearby Schaumburg, Ill.
The latest reductions are another portion of Santa Fe’s plan announced April 23, an announcement that included an initial reduction of 850 employees.
In addition to the 300 layoffs just announced, the company plans cuts of 1,200 additional workers by the end of 1992 in the 11-state region stretching from Illinois to California.
