Nation IN BRIEF : NEW YORK : Jet Maintenance Case to Be Settled

A federal prosecutor in New York said that Eastern Airlines is cooperating in a criminal case involving its maintenance of jetliners and that the matter may be resolved within weeks. The New York Times meanwhile reported that Eastern was expected to agree to plead guilty to some charges. The paper said the charges are expected to name more than seven current or former Eastern employees. A federal grand jury is considering charges the airline followed faulty maintenance practices.
