TORONTO — A Manitoba man died when the broken shaft of his golf club pierced his chest after it struck a metal pole, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said today.
Kelvin Penner, 23, of Lowe Farm, Manitoba, was rushed Sunday to a hospital nine miles from the course in Roland, Manitoba, 45 miles southwest of Winnipeg. He died from loss of blood.
“It was on the seventh tee off, and he was swinging the club around basically for the sake of swinging it,” said one RCMP officer.
“The way he hit the pole and so forth, (the club) came flying back and stuck in his chest,” the officer added.
