BREA : Small Fire Doused in Carbon Canyon
- Share via
A small brush fire in Carbon Canyon on Sunday was the third blaze in the last month to strike the hilly region separating Orange and San Bernardino counties.
The 5:30 p.m. fire on less than one acre was controlled by firefighters in about 15 minutes, said a spokesperson for the Orange County Fire Department. It was located in a field on the 17500 block of Carbon Canyon Road, across from Carbon Canyon Regional Park.
Two previous fires scorched 6,640 acres in Carbon Canyon on June 29 and more than 6,000 acres in nearby Chino Hills on July 12.
The first fire, which destroyed or damaged 14 homes and burned for two days, was allegedly started by a homeless man who was arrested for arson. The second fire was ignited by sparks flying from a 15-year-old boy’s model rocket, which he reportedly launched illegally in Chino Hills State Park.
