BETHESDA, Md. — Marilyn Quayle received a get-well phone call today from President Bush. Vice President Dan Quayle’s wife is in Bethesda Naval Hospital after gynecological surgery Saturday and should resume her usual schedule in four to six weeks.
There has been no official word on what kind of surgery Mrs. Quayle underwent, but there have been unconfirmed reports that she had a hysterectomy after cancer cells were detected in her cervix. She will turn 41 on Sunday. “She’s doing well,” White House spokesman Marlin Fitzwater said. “Her operation was successful.”
