DETROIT — The nation’s Big Three auto makers today said sales of their North American-made cars and light trucks tumbled 15.9% in mid-July compared with last year, when the sales rate zoomed upward.
Auto makers, analysts and dealers had been watching the numbers closely to see if a generally upward trend in the sales rate during the last two reporting periods would continue.
But General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler Corp. said car sales fell 17.8% and truck sales dropped 13%.
