An explosion of unknown origin ripped through the office of an engine repair shop Sunday, National City police reported.
The loud explosion tore up Precision Engine Repair shop in the 200 block of Civic Center Drive at 3:30 a.m., Officer Dan Fabinski said.
The police responded to a call about the explosion and to the burglar alarm, which had been activated, Fabinski said. Officers found no evidence of forced entry into the shop or property loss. The damage was extensive but officials have not yet estimated the actual costs, Fabinski said.
The business was closed and unoccupied at the time of the explosion.
National City police will continue investigating the incident with assistance from the bomb detail of the Sheriff’s Department.
