ON THE ROAD AGAIN

As a journalist, I have other nostalgic memories of six or eight round trips on Highway 66, dating from the time I first drove out here in 1949, and then went back to Chicago and Milwaukee for annual vacations.
We always stopped at the small towns to eat and to “people-watch.” In addition, I asked where the local newspaper office was located. Then I would buy the current issue and several previous issues, to help me get that flavor of real Mid-American “Main Streets.”
