WASHINGTON — President Bush on Monday visited Republican National Committee Chairman Lee Atwater, who is back in George Washington University Hospital in his struggle with a brain tumor.
Bush traveled by motorcade to George Washington University Hospital, five blocks down Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House, to see the ailing 39-year-old GOP chairman.
Spokesman Scott Sowry said Atwater’s condition was essentially unchanged. “The tumor is dying. Everything is fine and he’s working on his therapy,” Sowry said.
The GOP recently named Republican strategist Charles Black to act in Atwater’s place during his convalescence.
