Police were searching this morning for two men believed to have shot a guard during an attempted robbery of an armored car outside an Encino bank.
The Brink’s Inc. guard was shot once in the leg as he unloaded a cart from a truck parked outside Mitsui Manufacturers Bank at 16255 Ventura Blvd. at 10:15 this morning, witnesses and police said.
Police said it was uncertain if any money was missing from the truck.
According to witnesses, the guard was unloading the cart from the front of the truck when he was approached by two men. One of the men shot the guard once in the leg. Witnesses said the men then ran back into the bank and to a parking structure at the rear of the building.
They remained at large early this afternoon.
The guard, whose name was not released, was taken to a nearby hospital. A Brink’s official said the guard was not seriously injured.
