Jennings Will Not Seek Reelection

William H. Jennings, who has served on the Santa Monica City Council since 1979, announced Wednesday that he will not seek reelection this fall.
His decision means that two of the three council seats up for election on Nov. 6 will be open. Councilwoman Christine Reed will be the only incumbent seeking reelection. Councilman David Finkel is stepping down to run for municipal judge in Santa Monica.
Jennings, an attorney, said in a prepared statement that he decided not to seek a fourth term for family reasons.
“Over the past 12 years, I have devoted a great deal of time to this city, to issues of concern to me and to our residents,” he said. “Now I would like to spend more time at home with my wife and children.”
The filing deadline for candidates for City Council is next Wednesday at 5 p.m.
