Citrus College Names Interim Football Coach

Archie Carter, an assistant coach at Citrus College since 1976, has been named the school’s interim football coach for the 1990 season.

Carter has spent 12 years as the team’s linebacker coach, two years as running back coach and two years as defensive coordinator. Carter, who has a master’s degree in education from Azusa Pacific University, has also coached at Cal Poly Pomona and Nogales and Rowland high schools.

He replaces Mike Merandi, who announced in June that he was taking a one-year leave of absence.

“The institution is fortunate to have an individual of Archie Carter’s caliber who can step in and take over the football program for the 1990 season,” said Skip Claprood, Citrus College athletic director.

Jim Kerman, men’s junior varsity basketball coach at Occidental College the past two seasons, has been named the school’s sports information director.

He replaces Frances Hill, who has become Occidental’s media director.

A 1979 graduate of Occidental, Kerman guided the junior varsity team to second-place finishes in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference two seasons in a row. He has a record of 27-24 and 16-8 in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athlete Conference during that span.
