Police have arrested two suspects and recovered nearly all of the $50,000 in jewelry, clothing, cash and other goods taken Monday from a van that a woman and her friends were packing for a vacation trip.

Detectives went to an apartment in the 2800 block of Mission Boulevard about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and found the missing jewelry, clothing, suitcases, fishing gear and $1,800 in cash, police said Wednesday. Detectives are still searching for three other pieces of jewelry: a $15,000 ring, a $3,000 ring and an $8,000 necklace.

Police said they arrested the resident of the apartment, Scott McEachern, 28, as well as Kelly Getzan, 23, of the 4000 block of Rolando Boulevard. Getzan was wearing clothing taken in the burglary, and a pair of stolen earrings were found in her car, police said. The pair were arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property, and McEachern was also arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance for sale.

The goods were taken just after 4 a.m. Monday from the home of 52 year-old Charlotte Kobey as she and friends were preparing for a vacation.

Police said the van, in the 2800 block of Oceanfront Walk, had been left unlocked and unattended in an unlocked garage. When Kobey and her friends came back after an absence of about 10 minutes, seven of eight suitcases had been stolen.

Kobey is the wife of the late Monte Kobey, founder of Kobey’s Swap Meet, who died in October.
