Maestro Takes a Rest: Conductor Leonard Bernstein on Monday canceled a six-city European tour for health reasons. Bernstein hasn’t recovered from a series of respiratory ailments that plagued him last winter and spring. He had been scheduled to tour with an orchestra from the Tanglewood Music Center, the summer training center for young musicians where Bernstein began his career in 1940. The tour, scheduled from today through Sept. 3, was to have been the first time the center performed outside Tanglewood. It was to have included concerts in Germany, Austria and Spain. Bernstein turns 72 on Saturday.
