Police Seek Vehicle in Burbank Slaying

Burbank police were searching Friday for a white pickup truck that police believe was driven by gunmen who fatally shot a store clerk in front of his Burbank apartment.

Jose Salazar, 37, was killed at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday shortly after he and his wife, Cecilia, stopped in their car in front of their apartment complex in the 700 block of East Cedar Avenue, Sgt. Don Goldberg said.

Goldberg said a motive for the killing is not known.

Investigators believe that the two armed men who walked up to Salazar’s car and opened fire had been waiting specifically for him.

The victim’s wife was not injured.

Witnesses told police that the suspects fled in a white pickup with lowered suspension, a white camper shell and dark-tinted windows.

Nearby residents said the pickup had been seen occasionally in the neighborhood during the two weeks before the slaying.

Authorities asked anyone with information about the shooting or a truck matching the description of the getaway vehicle to call Burbank police.

Salazar, who worked at a market in Echo Park, had been picked up from work by his wife and was in the passenger seat of their car when he was shot.
