SYDNEY, Australia — An Australian prison guard said Friday he tested positive for AIDS after a prisoner stabbed him with a syringe containing blood infected with the virus.
Geoffrey Pearce, 21, said he was attacked by a prisoner, who was known to be HIV positive, in Sydney’s high-security Long Bay jail July 22 as he opened a security gate for him.
Feeling a jab in his buttock, Pearce said he knocked the syringe away. Tests of the syringe revealed it contained AIDS-infected blood and Pearce underwent blood tests.
