Hoover 24, Burbank 7--Hoover claimed a 24-7 win over Burbank at Glendale High behind the passing of quarterback Rene Gabris, who completed eight of 18 throws for 160 yards and two touchdowns.
Gabris’ touchdown passes included a 43-yard strike to Chris Kalaleh on the opening possession of the game and a 23-yard toss to Walter Ulloa.
On the first play of the second quarter, David Bronner kicked a 44-yard field goal for a 10-0 lead.
Burbank’s only score came when defensive back Juan Valencia picked up an errant pitch and ran 34 yards for a touchdown. Burbank tailback Randy Rand led all rushers with 62 yards in 12 carries. Quarterback Jason Chandler completed seven of 15 passes for 82 yards.
