‘Kickboxer’ Name Prompts a Suit: Kings Road Entertainment Inc., distributor of the 1989 movie “Kickboxer,” sued another distributing company, Distant Horizons, and Global Pictures over the similarity of their soon-to-be-released film “American Kickboxer.” In the federal court suit, Kings Road contended that Distant Horizons and Global Pictures “intentionally mislead the public . . . for the purpose of selling or palming off ‘American Kickboxer’ ” as a Kings Road film. (Case No. 90-4846. Filed Sept. 10, 1990).
