Here are the candidates running for two seats on the La Habra City Council in the Nov. 6 election.
Douglas Bystry
Age: 28
Occupation: Housing director, incumbent councilman.
Background: Has served on the council four years; UCLA graduate, chairman of Orange County Housing Commission, active in a number of clubs and organizations.
Issues: Balancing economic growth with homeowners’ rights, controlling graffiti and gang-related activity and increasing citizen participation.
William D. Mahoney
Age: 50
Occupation: Attorney, incumbent councilman.
Background: Has served on the council eight years, La Habra resident since 1960, probate practice in the city for 17 years.
Issues: Wants redevelopment and expansion of city’s commercial base to provide long-term source of revenue and to ensure high-quality city services.
Norman P. Eneim
Age: 35
Occupation: Machine shop foreman.
Background: Attended Sonora High School, Fullerton College, Los Angeles Trade Technical College.
Issues: Increasing sales tax revenue and maintaining local control and a free marketplace.
David M. Cheverton

Occupation: Businessman.
Background: Planning commissioner since 1988, president La Habra Rotary Club 1989-90, member of board of directors, La Habra Rotary Club, 1989-90.
Issues: Attracting businesses to increase sales tax base, maintaining La Habra’s atmosphere.
