15 Dead as Typhoon Hits Western Japan

TOKYO — Typhoon Flo thundered through coastal areas of western Japan on Wednesday, leaving 15 people dead, seven missing and 36 people injured, police said.
The typhoon, with winds up to 100 m.p.h., struck late Wednesday in Wakayama, 280 miles southwest of Tokyo. Forecasters said Flo was moving northeast at a speed of 25 m.p.h., and flood warnings were issued for central Japan.
