A record-high 74% of Americans say they have made a commitment to Jesus Christ, according to a Gallup Poll.
The survey consisted of telephone interviews in mid-June with a randomly selected national sample of 1,236 adults. The question was: “Would you say you have made a commitment to Jesus Christ, or not?”
The Gallup Organization, based in Princeton, N.J., said the 74% who responded affirmatively to the question compared to 66% in a 1988 survey and 60% in 1978.
Category breakdowns found that 95% of those who said they had made a commitment to Jesus Christ also said they have been “born again.” Commitment was higher among Protestants (82%) than Catholics (72%), and women were more likely than men to say they have made a commitment to Jesus Christ.
