Laguna Beach 16, Pius X 0--Laguna Beach High School turned two Pius X turnovers into touchdowns and won its first game of the season, 16-0, Friday night at Guyer Field.
The first touchdown came in the first quarter after senior linebacker Sean Sauers recovered a fumble on the Pius X 24-yard line. Two plays later, receiver Mike Dennis tipped senior quarterback Morgan Lanchantin’s 18-yard pass into the hands of Matt Guss in the end zone for the Laguna Beach touchdown.
The final Artist touchdown came after senior linebacker J.T. Klingenmeier picked off his second pass of the night at the Pius X 19-yard line. Six plays later, Lanchantin sneaked in for the touchdown from one yard out with 4:15 left in the game.
Laguna Beach (1-2) also scored on a 25-yard field goal by Eric Fegraus in the third quarter.
Pius X (0-3) was led by running back Devon English, who ran for 76 yards in 18 carries.
